This one-day workshop, organized by Dr. Jamal Barnes (Centre for Global Issues at Edith Cowan University) focused on questions of border crossings in the context of global migration exploring issues of multiculturalism, trans/nationalism, the ‘refugee crisis’ and human rights. The interrelation of migration and environmental concerns with regard to theoretical underpinnings as well as its mediation in public discourse and the arts received special attention.

The program included presentations by Dr. Victoria Herche and David Kern (both CAS Cologne), and a plenary lecture by Prof. Jeffrey Schnapp (Harvard University) on the impact of the digital revolution in the current debates.
